After being inspired initially by the shadows she observed in the grasses of trees She worked over a period of months to create a method that didn't depict the subject in a 2-dimensional picture. The subject is a mirror that is its own while the canvas is carrying its own interpretation painted by the object. This is especially true when it is a living thing or food item, such as fruit or people. The transient nature of her painting style is evident and the only thing that remains in Alexa Meade's art is a photograph. Both photographic and painting techniques are so tightly coordinated and result in a flat, two dimensional space that achieves trompe-l'oeil. In this, the third dimension is discernible only within certain places like near the eyes, or near hair. Meade has integrated her painted models within the 3-dimensional space around them. The interaction between them and this created world can be achieved. This is a way of breaking down the barriers between painting, photography, performance and installation.
